Traffic is yet another problem that will arise if this project succeeds. To start, it is estimated that anywhere from 74-124 trucks will be driving through Hazleton every working day, in both directions. The roads which are to be used are both heavy fog and ice during the winter months and include the Beltway South 424. The increase in traffic has potential to cause more accidents and bigger headaches for both the driver's using these roads and the homeowners who live near them and the construction site. This is not the only problem with increased truck traffic, diesel fumes are the cause of over 230 unnecessary deaths each year in PA alone.

Whether it is the homeowners or the commuters stuck behind these trucks, the exposure to these fumes is deadly and nauseating. It is no secret that diesel exhaust is unhealthy and harmful to the environment; they are exempt from emissions in the state of PA. There is a time and place for large diesel trucks, typically they are found on highways and worksites. This poses a problem to this particular project because the worksite is not easily accessible from major highways, it will require the work vehicles and hauling trucks to drive directly through the town of Hazleton and within hundreds of feet of homes and businesses. Furthermore, the trucks will be hauling Fly Ash. If present Fly Ash hauling is any indication of the future, Fly Ash would definitely escape into the surrounding environment causing damage to children the elderly and asthmatics. By the way, it's not that pleasant for the rest of us.
